About Me

Aloha!  My name is Kenji Matsumoto, and I’m the founder of Breaking the Game.  For those who don’t me, I’m a top tournament Scrabble player from Hawaii.  I have been a top 5 player in America for almost a decade, but can also play CSW quite well, and regularly advise several top 20 players, some of whom have recommended my material.  I’m also the lead editor of the Scrabble Players Handbook.

I majored in game theory from Hampshire College, and have extensive knowledge on the quantitative aspects of Scrabble. From an academic perspective, Scrabble is a game of metrics: measurable factors that are vital to Scrabble success.  Combined with my efforts over the table, I believe that my academic background gives me a unique ability to provide expert Scrabble analysis.

In addition to editing the Handbook, I’ve written two books about CSW: one that illustrates the basic fundamentals of Scrabble that one needs to become an expert level player, and a second book that contains all the information you need to excel at the expert level. Both books took an extremely long time to write, and I’ve gone through over ten drafts of both books and even paid some other players to edit for me. I care deeply about these books and will continue to do so, even though I’ve taken a substantial monetary loss in doing so.

Please look around and let me know if you have any comments or questions.  Any feedback is greatly appreciated!  If you like what you see, please pick up a copy of my book.

Thank you!
